Traditional biblicisms and other Polish phrases referring to women

Abstract
The article addresses issues related to the description of the biblical heritage of the Polish language. The author takes into account the current state of research on biblicisms as recorded in Polish language dictionaries, collections of proverbs. Based on this material, several groups of expressions thematically related to the presence of women in the Bible are identified. The article presents linguistic units that vary in terms of form, origin, semantics, and stylistics. It discusses: (1) biblical women’s names that are still used in contemporary Polish; (2) phrases naming biblical women that have acquired metaphorical meanings; (3) expressions whose linguistic prototypes are rooted in biblical texts describing events involving women; (4) short texts referring to the oral‑rhetorical biblical tradition (proverbs, maxims, commandments, legal formulas).
