The linguistic image of Stanisław Chlebowski’s fiancée and wife in the light of the painter’s family correspondence

Abstract
The article is situated in the current of research on the linguistic image of the world. The basis of the analysis is handwritten family letters of the nineteenth‑century painter Stanisław Chlebowski. The research attention focuses on the linguistic means used by the writer in the context of his fiancée, and later wife Maria Mikułowska. The sender of the letters calls her using various nominations, which carry the valorization of the young woman, presented in a humorous way as despotic and quarrelsome, but in reality a caring, thrifty and talented wife.
